Cashew Motif Saree

The cashew came to Goa with the Portuguese in the sixteenth century and promptly made itself at home. It now lines the country roads, fills the hillsides in spring and turns the state briefly, gloriously yellow-red at harvest time. It is in the food, in the feni, in the folk songs. For our founder, who grew up with cashew as a constant presence, it was one of the first motifs she ever drew for Mogasu.The cashew motif saree collection covers the whole story of the plant, the delicate five-petalled blossom that appears in spring, the swelling apple in yellow and red, the curved nut hanging beneath it, the broad leaf that shelters all of it. Each form is observed from life and translated into a hand block motif, custom-carved in Bagru, Rajasthan for Mogasu's use alone. What makes this motif particularly special is the colour.
