A jaal is an all-over pattern, a lattice or net that covers the entire surface of the fabric, every inch of the saree working together as a single continuous design. It is one of the most technically demanding forms of block printing: each impression must align precisely with the last, the repeat must be mathematically exact, and the craftsman must maintain that precision across the full six metres of a saree.
