Collection: Kaavi Art Saree Goa

Most visitors to Goa do not know that Kaavi exists. It is one of the state's oldest art forms, a tradition of painting on lime-plastered walls using red oxide pigment, producing bold graphic figures of deities, animals and scenes from mythology. You find it in the oldest temples and ancestral homes of Goa, in places that are not on any tourist map, in the care of families who have been maintaining these paintings for generations. Our founder discovered Kaavi slowly, through local friends, through the kind of conversations that happen when you actually live somewhere rather than visit it. The first time she saw a full Kaavi panel on the wall of an old home in the Salcete region, she understood immediately that this was something that belonged on fabric. The Kaavi art saree collection takes the boldness, the graphic clarity and the warm red-on-white palette of this ancient tradition and translates it into hand block print. Custom blocks carved in Bagru, Rajasthan. Pressed by hand onto mul cotton and linen. Colours that our artisans arrive at the same way the original Kaavi painters did, from earth pigments, by eye.
