If you have never been to Goa, you may not know kokum. If you have, you almost certainly remember your first glass of kokum sherbet that deep, cold, barely-sweet sourness that is unlike anything else and immediately makes the heat feel manageable. Kokum is Goa in a glass, and it is also, at Mogasu, a saree. The kokum fruit is visually extraordinary a deep purple-red sphere that splits open to reveal a burgundy interior, its rind dried and used in cooking across the Konkan coast. As a block print motif it is bold, round and deeply satisfying: a form that repeats beautifully across six metres of fabric without ever becoming monotonous. Our kokum print saree is one of the most distinctly Goan things we make. Customers who know Goa recognise it immediately. Customers who discover Goa through Mogasu remember it when they eventually visit. The colour that particular deep berry red is matched by our Bagru artisans entirely by eye, arrived at through experience rather than formula. Free shipping India. Pre-washed, with matching blouse piece.
