Kunbi Weave Saree India

The Kunbi weave is defined by its check, a distinctive interlocking pattern created on the loom by the Kunbi weavers of Goa, using a technique that has been passed down within the community across generations. The traditional Kunbi saree is woven in red and white or red and green, and worn by Kunbi women at the Shigmo festival one of Goa's most vibrant celebrations, in a sight that is among the most beautiful things this state produces.
At Mogasu, we work with Kunbi weavers in Goa to produce Kunbi weave sarees that honour this tradition while extending its colour range. Our reimagined Kunbi sarees use the same weave structure,  the same loom, the same hands, the same foundational craft,  in new colour combinations developed by our NIFT-trained founder in dialogue with what the weave naturally does well.
The result is a Kunbi weave saree that is rooted in Goa's indigenous textile heritage and designed for the contemporary Indian woman who wants to wear that heritage with pride.
