The rooftiles of old Goan houses are terracotta, the same warm red-orange that the laterite walls below them are cut from, the same tone as the mud on the forest paths after a rain, the same colour as the inside of a kokum when you split it open. Terracotta is not a trend in Goa. The shade is applied using azo free dyes in Bagru, Rajasthan, pressed from custom wooden blocks carrying Goa-inspired motifs onto mul cotton, linen and Kota Doria.
