Transparent Saree Hand Block

A transparent saree asks something of its wearer, a certain ease with visibility, a confidence in the interplay of fabric and form. At Mogasu, we think that ease should be effortless, and so we make our transparent sarees with the lightest, most beautifully sheer fabrics in the Indian weaving tradition: Kota Doria and mul cotton, each with an open weave that lets the light through while still draping with grace. Hand block printing on transparent fabric is an art of restraint. The ink must be applied with exactly the right pressure, enough to make the motif visible and rich, not so much that it closes the weave and loses the sheerness. Our artisans in Bagru, Rajasthan have practised this balance for generations, and it shows in the fineness of every print we produce.
