Collection: Wooden Block Print Saree

A wooden block is a remarkable object. Carved from seasoned teak or sheesham wood, sometimes as small as a matchbox and sometimes as large as a dinner plate, it holds a design in relief, every line, every dot, every curve cut by hand into the surface. When it is loaded with dye and pressed into fabric, it transfers not just the motif but something of itself: a slight warmth, a handmade quality, the knowledge that this impression was made by a tool that a craftsman shaped with his own hands. At Mogasu, every wooden block-print saree begins with a design from our Goa studio, birds, botanicals, booti, jaal, Goan food motifs, tile-inspired geometrics, sent to Bagru, Rajasthan where craftsmen carve custom blocks built exclusively for our prints. No other brand uses these blocks. No other saree carries these motifs. Each wooden block print takes between one and one and a half hours per saree, applied by hand using azo-free dyes on natural fabrics. The slight variation in each print is a proof of the process.
