An artsy saree is not one that tries to look like art, it is one that was made by someone who thinks like an artist. At Mogasu, that person is our founder: a NIFT-trained designer who graduated with the instinct that clothing should express something, moved to Goa with a sketchbook, and built a brand around the proposition that a saree can be as considered and personal as any other art form. Every Mogasu print begins as a drawing, observed, refined and translated into the specific constraints of a wooden block motif. Each design is then carried to Bagru, Rajasthan where craftsmen carve it and press it by hand onto natural fabric. The colours are the artisan's decision as much as the designer's matched by eye, adjusted by feel, arrived at through the kind of knowledge that only comes from years of daily practice.
