Rust is what happens to terracotta after the sun has worked on it for a season. Deeper, more complex, carrying a hint of the red that preceded it and the brown it is becoming. In Goa, you see this colour on old iron fittings on colonial balconies, on the dried leaves of the cashew tree, on the low walls of laterite buildings where the stone has been exposed to decades of monsoon and dry season in alternation. It is a colour with a history.
At Mogasu, our rust orange cotton sarees are printed in Bagru, Rajasthan using deep rust azo free dyes on mul cotton and linen, natural fabrics that hold this particular shade with warmth and permanence. Each motif is pressed from custom wooden blocks designed at our Goa studio: bird prints in rust on natural ground, botanical forms in layered rust and ochre, booti patterns in warm orange that scatter across the fabric like fallen leaves.Bold without being loud. Warm without being heavy.Free shipping India. Pre-washed, with matching blouse piece.
