Block Print Saree Worth Buying

A block print saree is worth buying when it is genuinely block printed,  when the motif was designed by someone, carved into a wooden block by someone else, and pressed into fabric by a third person who has spent a career learning exactly how much pressure and ink a good print requires. That is the block print saree worth buying. The other kind,  digitally simulated block print, or machine-printed fabric designed to look handmade,  is worth rather less.
At Mogasu, genuinely block printed is the only kind we make. Custom wooden blocks carved in Bagru, Rajasthan for our own Goa-inspired designs. Pressed by hand by artisan partners who match colour by eye. Printed on natural fabric using azo free dyes in small batches.
The way you know a Mogasu saree is genuinely block printed: the slight variation in each motif that no machine produces. The warmth of the impression. The depth of the colour on the weave. These are not imperfections,  they are the proof of the process.
